Reverence
"Affirmation of life is the spiritual act by which man ceases to live unreflectively and begins to devote himself to his life with reverence, in order to raise it to its true value." -Albert Schweitzer
"When we practice reverence, we open ourselves to experience faith, love and deep respect for the mysteries and wonders of life. We take time in solitude and silence each day to contemplate, pray and reflect. We seek to discern the deeper meaning in our lives. The beauty of nature restores our souls. We are respectful stewards of the earth. We treasure all life."

This morning as I geared up for another too-busy day, I knew I needed to use my self-discipline to not go right to my computer and the pile of to-dos on my desk. Instead I went to a peaceful, quiet place to take time to reflect and be. Listening first to beautiful music, reading some inspirational readings, picking a virtue card, and just being, restored me to wholeness. It was only a few minutes, but I was able to begin my day purposefully and peacefully. I remember who I truly am, a being who can and deserves to nurture my spirit first, to take time just for myself. Walking outdoors, breathing deeply, noticing the birds cheerfully chirping, immersing myself in the blossoms of a cherry tree, I know I'm alive. I KNOW what I need to do everyday. What will help me to DO it? How will I remember how I feel every time I take time for reverence, instead of the anxiety I feel when I go right to work with too much to do?
Questions for reflection:
How do I take time for solitude and to experience wonder?
How will I make time in my busy life for stillness?
What feeds and nurtures my spirit?
What daily routines do I have to practice reverence?
