Respect
"Respect is an attitude of honoring oneself and others and caring about their rights. Being respectful is reflected in the courtesy with which we speak and act and treat one another. Acting respectfully gives people the dignity they deserve. Respect is behaving in a way which makes life more peaceful and orderly for everyone."

On this Fourth of July, Independence Day for the United States, I am reflecting on the virtues which I, as an American, have held dear. Respect is one of those virtues. I admire my fellow Americans for their friendliness, enthusiasm, generosity and service.
Questions for reflection:
- How am I respectful of all people, including those in other countries or from different backgrounds from mine?
- How do I show respect for others who might disagree with me?
- How does my acting with respect create order and peacefulness for me and for those around me?
